The keyword of the art of József Baksai (1957) is duality. This is partly manifest in his creative method, as well as the represented themes and the applied techniques. Among his subjects, we can find the personae of ancient mythology, events and symbolic figures of the Old and the New Testament. Animal representations are present in the entirety of the oeuvre, they constantly appear in various contexts, carrying different meanings in the series created by Baksai – often extending the scope of the fundamental symbolism attached to them. In our book, through his animal representations, we look at his oeuvre.
