The presentation, discussion, interpretation and contextualisation of the oeuvre of István ef Zámbó (1951) requires a primarily interdisciplinary approach, as, in his body work, his activities in the visual arts (and within that, the entire arsenal of all genres), music, poetry, performance and organisational activities unfold in indivisible unity. His sovereign, uncompromising, humorous-absurd, instinctive-ironic artistic method – which, looking back from the present, accurately reflects the ambivalences of his own era – and his almost uncontrollable creativity are difficult to fit into the category system of art-historical processing. With his words: “With my paintings and sculptures, I want to awaken thoughts in the viewer that would not have occurred to me either.”
