Polgár Rózsa

Rózsa Polgár (1936–2014) was an outstanding representative of contemporary Hungarian tapestry art. Her artistic creed was that her oeuvre was completeness conveyed in thread. Her works raise the question whether a strict boundary can be drawn between the period of so-called experimental textile and the most recent period of contemporary Hungarian textile art, or if tapestry too is a space for artistic experimentation, a ‘border crossings’, an area that constitutes a bridge between ‘grand art’ and ‘applied art’.
