László Szotyory’s (1957) works are traditional panel paintings created within a definable genre-based framework, with describable painting tools and with clearly discernable stylistic peculiarities and characteristics. Through these, the painter captures his desires and articulates his human passions and moods in concentrated form; the hedonism of applying paint onto the canvas becomes embodied in its own materialistic reality. What we see on his canvases is far from impotent melancholy. In fact, taking all of the above into account, his paintings also functions as catalysts; they give momentum towards a brighter and perhaps happier future.
