The human being is at the centre of Görgy Verebes’s (1965) painting, and not only as a figure, but also as a philosophical and existential phenomenon. One of the cornerstones of his thinking is the subject-action-object relationship. When it comes to the context of painting, this translates something akin to: when the painter paints, painting becomes his/her own identity. That is to say, in the intense presence in which the painter’s works are born, it is impossible to separate the actor, the action, and the resulting work, the object of painting. It is in this state of grace that the image begins to paint itself.
